This opportunity is ideal for UW students interested in education, STEM, literacy, youth development, mentoring, community engagement, leadership, or simply making a meaningful difference in the lives of local students.

Jamarek seeks UW work study students who are patient, dependable, encouraging, respectful, and enthusiastic about working with young people. Work study students should be comfortable supporting students in grades 3-12 with different learning styles and academic abilities and be willing to work collaboratively with Jamarek staff and other program volunteers.

UW Work-Study students will serve as mentors and academic support partners in Jamarek's after-school programs in the Sun Prairie School District. Students will support hands-on STEM activities and team-based projects as well as math and science tutoring with elementary and high school students.

UW work study students may lead younger students in participating in activities related to robotics, coding, engineering design, science experiments, technology, problem-solving challenges, and other age-appropriate STEM projects. UW Work-Study will guide students through the learning process, encourage curiosity, and help them understand how classroom concepts can be applied to real-world situations.

UW students will work with students individually and in small groups to provide tutoring in math, reading, literacy, and homework completion. They will help students strengthen foundational academic skills, improve study habits, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude toward learning.

Team building is an important part of the program. UW work study students will help students develop communication, collaboration, leadership, responsibility, and problem-solving skills by working together on projects and group activities. They will encourage students to listen to one another, share ideas, overcome challenges, and contribute positively to their team.

In addition to academic support, UW Work Study Students will serve as positive college role models. By interacting with UW-Madison students, participating youth will gain greater exposure to college, different academic pathways, and future careers. UW students are encouraged to share appropriate aspects of their educational experiences and help students see higher education and STEM-related careers as achievable goals.
