Academic Planner II

The College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (CAI) invites an ambitious and visionary Academic Planner (II) to play a defining role in building the academic strategy of a newly established and rapidly evolving College. This is an opportunity to shape and strengthen academic programs, practices, and planning processes that support the College’s long-term success and evolving mission. As a key partner to leadership, reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Academic Planner will work on the design, evolution, and evaluation of programs and courses within CAI that reflect the role of computing and AI in education and society.

The Academic Planner for the College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (CAI) supports the creation, evolution, and assessment of courses and programs in support of the College’s academic mission. This position assists with the planning and governance of CAI’s academic programs, including data collection for assessment, reviewing program and course proposals, assisting with university-level governance of proposals, and supporting the CAI academic planning council (APC).

The academic planner will make heavy use of data in decision making and provide data products such as reports and dashboards to other units and teams in the college.

The Academic Planner ensures that CAI programs follow university guidelines and ensures timely movement of proposals through governance, including coordination with other affected or interested units on campus. The position may include supervision of additional academic planning staff.

• Designs and delivers directed academic planning and programs messaging to internal and external audiences; maintains all records and documentation of academic, curricular, and course change actions
• Directs and leads collaborative activities across units, schools, colleges, and divisions
• Provides recommendations for changes to policy and advances proposals for policy changes to meet changing needs of the academy in partnership with governance committees and colleagues in academic units
• Ensures that the work of formal school, college, or divisional planning council or curriculum committees operate effectively and according to committee procedures, which includes among other activities, agenda and document preparation and distribution, communication with members and presenters, and follow up communication
• Reviews proposals for new academic programs, program changes, curriculum, and/or courses to ensure that proposals meet policy standards, and provides feedback to proposing academic units
• Collects, prepares, and analyzes academic program information and prepares reports and analyses of patterns of activity based on that information
• May develop new approaches, methods, or techniques to resolve problems and addresses unexpected, controversial, or complex situations
• Incorporates improvement recommendations into existing academic programming policy and practice based on school, college or divisional needs and external requirements (e.g., academic accreditation)

The minimum starting salary is $80,000 but may be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
