ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will support the high performance design process through analysis of high performance design strategies and concepts, primarily through performance modeling; develop and optimize analytical tools and processes to provide timely, design‑relevant insight to internal design teams, partners and clients. You will interpret and utilize information set forth in basis of design as well as information gathered from users, project partners, field surveys, and code research.
Responsibilities include:
- Support high performance design through analysis and performance modeling.
- Develop and optimize analytical tools and processes for timely, design‑relevant insights.
- Interpret information from basis of design, users, project partners, field surveys, and code research.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering (or another engineering discipline) from an accredited program; or commensurate degree and experience with building systems.
- Advanced understanding of building systems across disciplines with experience in at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation and controls, or building envelope systems.
- Advanced understanding of high performance design tenets including renewable energy strategies, day lighting, embodied energy, indoor environmental quality, material composition, water efficiency, life cycle assessment, and built environment planning.
- Ability to use at least one building system simulation tool (Energy Plus, IES-VE, TRNSYS, DOE-2/eQuest, TRACE, CFD, or Radiance) for consulting and analysis; strong application of these tools.
- Experience in computer operation for building system analysis and engineering calculation programs.
- Proficiency in CAD/BIM software as necessary for building performance analysis and consulting.
- Understanding of applicable rating systems, design codes and standards, and ability to interpret them.
- Industry certification or license applicable to building system design and performance (including but not limited to LEED AP, ASHRAE HPDP, ASHRAE BEMP, ASHRAE BEAP, Green Globes Professional, or AEE CEM).
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) or ability to obtain the PE license in one or more states.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn programming languages (C++, Ruby, Python, Visual Basic, etc.).
- Strong spoken and written communications skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Quick technical comprehension and motivation focused on client outcomes.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively individually and within teams.
