Job Description
The Field Engineer will play a pivotal role in overseeing projects at natural gas compressor stations. These stations are industrial facilities where natural gas is compressed to maintain pressure as it travels through pipelines. This role involves working with multiple disciplines, including civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, ensuring efficient project execution and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture on-site.
- Assist the Project Manager in managing smaller projects.
- Understand the terms, conditions, and scope of the contract.
- Track materials, production, and project costs for review and approval by the Project Manager.
- Facilitate subcontractor activities effectively.
- Maintain and oversee project schedules.
- Perform basic estimating, take-offs, and solicitation of quotes.
- Provide on-site administrative support.
- Assist with quality assurance, quality control, and test protocols.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience as a Field Engineer or in a similar role within Power Generation, Heavy Industrial, or Power Plant projects.
- Experience with construction management, industrial, mechanical, electrical, and project engineering.
- Proficient in reading blueprints and using project management software.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience overseeing subcontractors in electrical, mechanical, civil, or process piping disciplines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with EPC or GC companies.
- Ability to work away from home for extended periods, with rotations home every 4-6 weeks.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
Work Environment
The position involves working on power plant projects, providing power for data centers. These multi-year projects involve a significant amount of civil and underground work, as well as electrical and mechanical components. Most jobs are 6 days a week, 10 hours a day. Field Engineers will be based on-site at project locations, primarily within the Midwest, and work in a team-oriented environment with opportunities for growth into project management roles.
A strong training program is in place, and engineers will receive hands‑on experience with a senior project manager before managing projects independently. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $67.00/hr.
