Qolab is recruiting quantum hardware scientists and engineers to join our team focused on the development of utility-scale superconducting quantum computers. The technical effort at Qolab is led by Nobel laureate John Martinis (CTO); other senior scientists at Qolab, including Robert McDermott (Head of Hardware), have worked closely with the recent Nobel laureates for many years. Qolab partners with the best in the world in specific domain areas - state-of-the-art device fabrication, high-speed control electronics, and high-performance computing - to engineer robust systems that are compatible with near-term beyond classical applications and ultimately with full fault tolerance.
The first priority at Qolab is to improve qubit coherence using a deep understanding of the underlying physics to develop proprietary fabrication processes that are now being implemented with Qolab partner Applied Materials, the world leader in development of advanced tooling for the semiconductor industry.
What Quantum Hardware Engineers Work On- Design, build, and characterize superconducting qubits and related devices
- Develop and refine fabrication processes to improve qubit coherence and reproducibility
- Work hands-on in cryogenic test environments, including dilution refrigerators
- Develop new hardware to control and measure superconducting qubits
- Analyze qubit performance and contribute to iterative device optimization
- Collaborate closely with partner organizations and internal cross-disciplinary teams
You have:
- A degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field (BS, MS, or PhD)
- 3+ years experience in quantum hardware or similar R&D environments
- Experience with superconducting qubits or related quantum technologies, cryogenic measurement, or device fabrication
You are:
- Able to work onsite in Madison, WI
- Excited by technical depth, fast iteration, and high responsibility environments
- Work directly with pioneers of superconducting quantum computing
- Help shape a system architecture built for utility-scale impact
