Senior Project Manager / Environmental Engineer or Scientist

Location: Madison, Wisconsin.

This senior‑level position combines technical leadership, complex project delivery, client relationship management, and business development within the Earth & Environment team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planning, design, and execution of diverse environmental and water resource projects, driving strategic planning, resourcing, partnering, and contracting strategies for high‑value client engagements.
  • Manage full project life cycles, including budgets, schedules, contracts, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Oversee environmental projects such as site characterization, remedial design, and preparation of technical reports and documentation.
  • Prepare proposals, develop scopes of work, task‑level budgets, and cost estimates for large‑scale pursuits.
  • Maintain strong client relationships while managing multiple concurrent projects and providing regular workload and resource forecasting reports to regional leadership.
  • Build and sustain long‑term relationships with key clients and stakeholders, lead pursuit strategies and preparation of winning proposals.
  • Supervise and mentor multidisciplinary teams of engineers, hydro geologists, and environmental scientists, supporting professional growth.
  • Ensure adherence to WSP Quality Assurance/Quality Control standards and safety plans, and project compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of environmental engineering or science experience, including 5+ years in a dedicated project management role.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG).
  • Advanced experience with site investigations and/or remediation of sediment, surface water, and/or groundwater.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Commitment to WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies.
  • Ability to pass a drug test, physical, background check, and maintain a satisfactory driving record per WSP policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or environmental science.
  • Ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert within one or more WSP Practice Area Networks.
  • Experience with any of the following:
    • Design and construction of sediment remediation and/or water resources restoration projects.
    • Development or leadership of environmental or hydrogeologic models, including large datasets and 3D characterizations.
    • Environmental permitting and regulatory coordination with US EPA and/or state agencies.
    • Leadership of interdisciplinary teams spanning environmental, geotechnical, water resources, ecological, and regulatory disciplines.
    • Construction oversight and contractor management experience in the Midwest U.S.
