Senior Mechanical Engineer – Madison, WI (Remote possible)
IMEG, a 100% employee‑owned design consulting firm, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design efforts for moderate to complex projects primarily in the vertical building industry. The role will involve project management, engineering analysis, design oversight, client relationship management, and mentoring of junior staff.
Responsibilities- Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including detailed design, specifications, calculations, and code compliance.
- Perform project site assessments, generate technical reports, and provide in‑process design reviews.
- Interact with clients to understand requirements, gather project data, communicate technical information, and maintain client relationships.
- Implement quality control processes to ensure engineering designs meet IMEG, industry, and client standards.
- Provide technical training, mentoring, and resolve field issues with limited senior support.
- Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices; contribute to research and innovation efforts.
- Prioritize safety and identify risk mitigation for mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, PMs) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Participate in project interviews and presentations.
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects ranging in size and complexity.
- Assist executives with design scopes, fee calculations, proposal generation, and contract reviews.
- Create project schedules with milestones and deadlines.
- Serve as contact for teams and clients.
- Generate monthly billings and provide financial information to accounting.
- Ensure design follows owner, IMEG standards, and code; manage quality control and construction support.
- Collaborate with design staff to schedule projects and lead progress meetings.
- Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation.
- Respond to client/construction concerns, manage change orders, and obtain approvals.
- Train, mentor, and motivate staff; build client relationships.
- Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and production of technical plans and specifications.
- Strong analytical skills in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

- Travel up to 20% (including overnight stays).
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in building design consulting industry (8 years preferred).
