Senior Mechanical Engineer – Madison, WI (Remote Possible)
IMEG is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design efforts for moderate to complex projects, manage mechanical systems for the vertical building industry, and provide project direction and engineering solutions. Responsibilities include project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight, budget management, mentoring, and cross‑functional collaboration.
Technical Path- Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information.
- Provide in‑process design reviews and implement quality control processes.
- Provide technical training and mentoring; resolve field issues with limited support.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technology, and best practices.
- Prioritize safety, identify and mitigate risks associated with mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for integrated solutions.
- Participate in project interviews and presentations.
- Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts for technical plans and specifications.
- Advanced proficiency in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics relating to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Strong training, mentoring, and leadership skills.
- Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise.
- Ability to sell work and develop client relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; clear oral and written communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- 7 years of experience minimum in the building design consulting industry, 8 preferred.
- Coordinate, oversee and manage projects ranging in size and complexity.
- Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes and fee calculations for proposals and contract reviews.
- Create project schedules with milestones and deadlines.
- Serve as point of contact for teams and clients.
- Create monthly billings and submit financial information to Accounting; update billing projections and estimates.
- Ensure design follows owner standards, IMEG standards and code requirements; complete quality control processes.
- Collaborate with design staff and coordinate project scheduling during all phases; lead progress meetings.
- Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed.
- Respond to and resolve client/construction concerns, manage change orders, obtain approvals.
- Train, mentor, and motivate staff; build and maintain client relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership traits in project management; ability to mentor, train, and motivate others.
- Technical proficiency in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Final quality control check within area of expertise.
