Overview
Field Engineer I positions are available in Madison, WI along with additional locations in Ashwaubenon (Green Bay), Milwaukee, and East Wisconsin Avenue. The primary focus is on construction engineering and inspection of large highway and bridge projects across Madison and southwest Wisconsin.
Responsibilities- Assist with construction field work tasks to ensure conformity to plans, specifications, and contractual documents.
- Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
- Observe on‑site material testing and coordinate testing and monitoring services.
- Perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
- Conduct basic shop drawing review and ensure procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies or conflicts.
- Review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
- Review contractor's as‑built mark‑ups, document project progress with video and photo, and prepare progress reports.
- Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommend solutions, assist in issue resolution, and liaison with the engineer of record.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry technology and tools (e.g., GPS/Rovers) to increase inspection efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform office engineer tasks such as preparing meeting agendas and minutes, processing and maintaining tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Basic ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Basic experience with material quantity calculations.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
- Training in digital construction management software such as Constructware, Asite, or similar.
- Experience working on WisDOT transportation projects.
