Job Overview
WSP is searching for a Mine Waste Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join the Mine Waste team in Lakewood, CO, with additional locations considered in Anchorage, AK;
Madison, WI; or St. Louis, MO. The role involves civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry, working on both domestic and international assignments.
- Perform geotechnical field investigations and site/material characterization.
- Design and evaluate facilities, including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity calculations.
- Conduct slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, deformation, and surface water management analyses.
- Prepare technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
- Assist in developing project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Lead and manage junior engineers and mentor peers.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Support technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needs.
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures.
- Undergo training and exercise responsible, ethical decision‑making aligned with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, or closely related field.
- Engineer in Training certification.
- 3‑5 years of relevant post‑education experience.
- Strong analytical skills for engineering calculations and analyses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in remote settings and willing to travel domestically and internationally.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and industry software.
- Willingness to work extended hours as project demands require.
- Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration or intent to complete the PE exam within 6‑12 months.
- Project management experience with mid‑sized projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Muk3D, Slide2D, Slope/W, Seep/W.

Expected salary for Colorado: $75,600 – $110,700, based on education, experience, skills, and location.
