Position Overview
The Equipment and Automation Engineer II in the Corporate Operations department is responsible for manufacturing support of existing equipment and for launching new equipment into production. The role involves engineering design, technical guidance to production teams, troubleshooting failures, managing improvements, and ensuring equipment is supported throughout its life cycle. The engineer works cross‑functionally to meet business objectives and customer needs while supporting a collaborative workplace aligned with Exact Sciences’ mission to eradicate cancer.
EssentialDuties
- Develop processes and procedures for building new equipment.
- Apply defined procedures to execute and document changes to existing equipment.
- Create, document, and execute protocols to support process or part changes.
- Investigate problems, gather facts, analyze data, and draw accurate conclusions.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Support failure analysis investigations, identify root causes with help from experienced team members, and develop solutions to resolve quality issues.
- Support the building and testing of custom equipment.
- Provide manufacturing support for the repair center.
- Apply technical knowledge to identify opportunities and recommend improvements to existing equipment and processes.
- Develop implementation plans and execute assigned tasks.
- Lead less complex improvement projects.
- Manage time and competing priorities with minimal guidance from leadership.
- Communicate project status and resource needs; prepare and present reports.
- Follow procedures and maintain detailed records in accordance with FDA, ISO, CAP, CLIA requirements.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance and work designated schedule.
- Lift up to 50 pounds for < 5% of a typical working day.
- Work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
- Comply with all applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Travel approximately 10% of working time for occasional training and vendor site visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2+ years of experience; or an associate’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Electronics, or similar field with 4+ years of experience.
- Basic knowledge of engineering theories, practices, and procedures with ability to apply this knowledge to complete assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects to successful completion.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- 2+ years of experience in engineering or the relevant life sciences/medical device industry.
- 2+ years of experience working in manufacturing or engineering environments applying problem solving skills (e.g., Six Sigma, probability and statistics) and process improvement (e.g., Lean).
- 2+ years of experience working in an FDA/cGMP/CAP/CLIA regulated production environment.
- 2+ years of experience working with Electronic Quality Management Systems and Manufacturing Software Systems.
Salary Range: $76,000.00 – $. The position is located in Madison, WI, and is full‑time, bonus eligible.
