Engineering Technician

Job Description

The Engineering Technician provides advanced engineering support within a production environment, focusing on high-level assembly and rework of medical devices. This role emphasizes complex mechanical work and higher-level mechanical testing, without involvement in voltage or electrical testing. It offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with higher-level education to deepen their hands-on experience in the medical device industry.

Responsibilities

+ Perform high-level assembly of medical device subassemblies and components in a production environment, following detailed engineering and production requirements.

+ Execute advanced rework of medical devices, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of subassemblies to meet quality and performance specifications.

+ Conduct higher-level mechanical testing on medical devices and subassemblies to verify functionality, durability, and compliance with engineering standards.

+ Troubleshoot mechanical issues in medical device assemblies and subassemblies, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.

+ Interpret and work from engineering schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints to perform assembly, rework, and testing activities accurately.

+ Follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality assembly and rework processes.

+ Use appropriate tools, fixtures, and test equipment to support mechanical testing and troubleshooting activities.

+ Document work performed, including test results, rework actions, and any deviations from standard procedures, in accordance with production and quality requirements.

+ Collaborate with production and engineering teams to provide feedback on assembly processes, test results, and potential design or process improvements.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and adhere to all applicable safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines for medical device production.

Essential Skills

+ Associate's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent technical education.

+ 5+ years of experience working with subassemblies in a production or engineering environment.

+ 5+ years of experience working in a medical device environment or closely related regulated industry.

+ Proven experience performing mechanical assembly and rework of complex subassemblies.

+ Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems and components.

+ Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.

+ Experience following detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures in a production setting.

+ Hands-on experience with mechanical testing of assemblies and subassemblies.

+ Demonstrated ability to perform repair and rework activities on mechanical components.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and compliance.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, supported by an internship or co-op experience in a relevant environment.

+ Experience as an engineering technician in a production or manufacturing setting.

+ Familiarity with oscilloscopes and other diagnostic or test equipment, where applicable to mechanical or system-level testing.

+ Ability to interpret and apply engineering documentation, including work instructions and technical specifications.

+ Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams.

+ Ability to adapt to evolving production needs and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This position operates within a medical device production environment that emphasizes precision, quality, and adherence to established processes. The role focuses on mechanical assembly, rework, and higher-level mechanical testing of medical devices and subassemblies, with no voltage or electrical testing responsibilities. Team members work closely with production and engineering staff, following detailed work instructions, engineering schematics, and blueprints. The environment supports individuals with both associate's and bachelor's level engineering education, including recent graduates who have completed internships or co-op programs.

Work is performed at designated workstations and test areas using standard mechanical tools, fixtures, and test equipment, under structured procedures aligned with medical device industry standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Madison, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
