Responsibility Level
Oversees a team of Systems Engineering Leaders and Senior Systems Engineers, guiding the strategic direction and long-term planning of the Americas HVAC Engineering Team. This role is instrumental in aligning engineering capabilities with Johnson Controls’ enterprise growth initiatives, including Strategic Accounts, Open Blue, Connected Workflow Dashboards, and Vertical Market Solutions.
Responsible for establishing and refining engineering processes that promote cost efficiency, consistent project execution, and high customer satisfaction. Partners effectively with field operations, sales teams, and Regional and Local Market Leadership to ensure integrated delivery and support across all engineering functions.
Principal DutiesDevelop a Region Core Team strategic business plan consistent with the Above-Market account management plans, mission, and objectives. Understand the business environment of regional markets and work with the Region Leadership Team to support this.
Participate in the development and execution of Training plans for Controls Systems Engineers, Controls Systems Specialists (Canada), and Controls Systems Designers.
Participate in Strategic Account reviews to ensure projects are delivered consistently across the Americas HVAC Engineering Team.
Review Sales Forecast, HVAC Headcount Tracking and Capacity Model to ensure resources match future work.
Collaborate closely with offshore engineering teams to ensure project execution strategies consistently achieve the highest quality and cost efficiency.
Develop, implement, monitor, and communicate the Americas HVAC Engineering Team processes, strategies, and standards.
Participate in region project reviews on major projects, and understand financial and contract management reports.
Develop and maintain viable relationships with customers, consulting engineers, and architect engineers to enhance pre-sales design and secure additional value.
Ensure high levels of engineering standards and maximum reuse of designs and programs.
Lead the development and implementation of the Global Engineering Playbook and Drawing Style Guide, ensuring consistent adoption across engineering teams.
Mentor and coordinate development of team members, implementing personal development plans, goal setting, and timely performance reviews.
Provide technical assistance to other teams within the region as needed.
Participate in broader JCI committees and initiatives as assigned by the leader of America’s Engineering teams.
Adhere to safety standards and demonstrate high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Requirements Minimum- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience, with a minimum of 8-10 years of progressively more responsibility in the construction and engineering industries.
- Prior experience in supervision of technical/engineering group.
- Minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in the construction industry.
- Master’s degree or Professional Engineer Registration is highly desired.
- Recognized as a leading expert in several core engineering competencies.
- Understanding of accounting principles and cost management.
- Good oral and written communication skills, especially in the presentation of technical material.
