CAMECA, a world leader in microanalytical and metrology instrumentation, is seeking an R&D Scientist to support the design and development of next-generation Atom Probe microscopes. Reporting to the Principal Engineer, this role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams on advanced instrumentation and subsystem development.

Key Responsibilities:

Instrument Performance & Testing

  • Design, coordinate, and conduct subsystem and full instrument performance tests
  • Quantify performance of atom probe instrumentation and report findings through internal reports and technical reviews

Simulation & Modeling

  • Develop ion optical simulation tools to predict overall instrument performance
  • Validate electrostatic models using existing atom probe systems and recommend enhancements for future designs
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, applications, and engineering teams to define next-generation instruments
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews involving mechanical, optical, and electronic systems
  • Work closely with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to design, procure, and test prototype systems

Manufacturing & Process Development

  • Develop processes for manufacturing proprietary components used in atom probe instruments
  • Apply knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods, including heat treatment, forming, EDM, electroforming, micro-drilling, laser processing, machining, and tolerance analysis

Systems Evaluation & Technical Development

  • Evaluate and enhance microchannel plate-based single particle detection systems
  • Assess materials and define best practices for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) and high-voltage (HV) mechanical designs

Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide hands‑on troubleshooting support to Service and Manufacturing teams, both on‑site and remotely as needed
  • Support production and service personnel through training, documentation, and issue resolution
Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • MS or PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field (required)
  • 6–8 years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Lorentz or COMSOL (preferred)

Technical Knowledge
