About the role

The Chief, Critical Facilities Engineer(CE) will be an individual contributor and leadership position responsible forall electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment of stand‑by diesel generators, switch gear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, building automation systems and other related equipment. P lanned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues will also be part of the duties of the role along with being the expert technical resource and interacting with onsite operations teamand third‑party vendors.

The CE will involve working independently as well as collaboration with external support with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams in both local and global settings. The CE will be tasked with creating and delivering onkey milestones,obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities.

What you'll do
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
  • Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center, escalating to the Critical Facility Manager as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot and report of facility and data sever‑level events within internal SLA.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Critical Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Provide training and guidance to Critical Operations Technicians
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and PDC employees.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience
Qualifications Required
  • Technical college degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
  • Four or more years of data center experience or equivalent experience
  • CPR/First Aid and NFPA
    70E Certification during employment.
Preferred
  • Sixor more years of related experience in Data Centers or similar environment(i.e.,critical facilities, military etc.)
  • Two or more years’ experience leading or managing teams
Knowledge, Skills a nd Abilities:
  • Strong background in electrical and mechanical systems design review, layout, installation,commissioning,and operations.
  • Expert knowledge of NFPA Electrical, Fire and Life Safety and building codes
  • Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and compliance issues
  • Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e.,lockout/tag out, arc flash protection,OSHA,and state regulations)
  • Experienced with data trending / tracking and analysis and ability to rapidly learn and use PC based, integrated critical monitoring systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Extensive hands‑on experience installing,maintaining,and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial mechanical & electrical systems including
  • 480V Electrical Distribution Systems
  • CRACs / CRAHs / DSE
  • Domestic Water systems, including Backflow Prevention devices
  • EPMS / BMS Systems
  • Fuel/Oil systems, Fuel/Oil Day tanks and Fuel/Oil Storage Tanks
  • HVAC equipment
  • Knowledge of NFPA 25, sprinkler and dry‑stand pipe systems, including Emergency Fire Pump where applicable
  • Medium Voltage Switchgear
  • PLC and relay logic controls
