As a Lead Concept Artist, you will combine expert-level craft execution with team leadership, driving high-quality visual development while mentoring and growing other artists. You will partner closely with the Art Director and cross-discipline teams to translate creative vision into compelling, production-ready designs that define the Apex universe.
Responsibilities- Drive the visual development and execution of concept art across Apex Legends, ensuring alignment with artistic direction, gameplay, and narrative goals
- Partner closely with the Art Director and production teams to translate vision into clear, actionable concepts that support downstream development
- Create expert-level concept designs across characters, environments, weapons, and props, establishing a high quality bar for the team
- Provide hands-on mentorship and training to concept artists, helping develop their skills in design, composition, and visual storytelling
- Foster strong collaboration with game design, narrative, and production to deliver cohesive and innovative visual solutions
- Contribute to and help evolve style guides, visual frameworks, and reference materials to ensure consistency across internal and external teams
- Support presentation and communication of visual ideas, including art reviews, stakeholder presentations, and milestone deliverables
- Act as a key contributor to team culture by promoting craft excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Drive external development partners to successfully execute on concepts, providing clear direction, feedback, and quality benchmarks to ensure assets meet Apex Legends’ visual standards
- Stay informed about emerging tools and production methodologies, actively adopting innovative workflows to help streamline concept creation and improve production velocity
- Significant experience (typically 6+ years) as a concept artist in the game industry, with a portfolio demonstrating expert-level design, composition, and visual storytelling
- Proven ability to operate at a senior level, including mentoring, training, and guiding other artists
- Deep understanding of anatomy, design principles, color theory, composition, and perspective, with the ability to apply them at a high level
- Strong ability to translate creative direction into production-ready visual solutions in collaboration with Art Directors and cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools (e.g., Photoshop, Painter, and 3D tools for paint-overs and ideation)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, give actionable feedback, and present work to stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and contribute to a team-oriented environment
- Passion for Apex Legends and a clear understanding of its visual identity and potential evolution
- Experience working on multiplayer shooters or live service games
- Advanced familiarity with 3D workflows to support concept development
- Experience contributing to training initiatives or formal mentorship programs
- Experience working closely with Art Directors on camera, composition, and in-game presentation
- Familiarity with outsourcing pipelines and external partner collaboration
- Passion for pushing bold, innovative visual ideas while maintaining gameplay clarity and cohesion
