Position: LTE Natural Resources Customer Service Representative (Madison)

Introduction

In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) Natural Resources Customer Service Representative at our offices, in Madison, WI.

This position will work four 10‑hour shifts per week, which includes three week days accompanied by every other weekend. The hours for these shifts are 11:30 am–10:00 pm.

Position Summary

This position has primary responsibility for assisting the public with hunting, fishing and trapping inquiries and license issuance. It determines and explains licensing requirements and necessary steps to participate in these outdoor pursuits lawfully through the application of state statutes, administrative rules, and policies and procedure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provision of information on a full range of DNR topics to the public concerning hunting and fishing laws, requirements and procedures pertaining to licensing, Wisconsin residency, and DNR programs. Serve as a primary point of contact for analyzing complex questions. Explain program policies and procedures in responding to customer requests. Provide answers to questions or requests for information. (50%)
  • Respond to moderate to highly complex inquiries from the public, DNR staff, enforcement agencies, and others; provide information concerning legal requirements, departmental, division and bureau procedures, and assist in the resolution of Wisconsin hunting, fishing and trapping harvest registration and regulation issues. (25%)
  • Review and explain entries listed on customer records and record abstracts to inform individuals of point accumulations for bear, bobcat, fisher, turkey and sharp‑tailed grouse drawings. (5%)
  • Process disabled hunter permit applications. Evaluate information provided on application and determine, through consideration of state statute and physician’s recommendation, whether a medical or other condition exists for eligibility of a disabled angler license or hunter permit. Independently issue discretionary disabled hunter permits. (15%)
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor. (5%)
Salary Information

This position pays between $22.24 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 02-13. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.
