Position Summary
Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart seeks a mission-driven, strategic, and collaborative financial leader to serve as its Director of Finance. This senior leadership role stewards the school’s financial health through disciplined planning, transparent reporting, and strong internal controls, ensuring long-term sustainability and alignment with the school’s Catholic mission and strategic priorities. The Director of Finance serves as a key advisor to the President, Principal and Board of Trustees and works closely with everyone across the school to support sound financial decision‑making in service of students and families.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy- Leads the development of both preliminary and final annual budgets, assembling departmental requests and establishing institutional priorities in consultation with the administrative team.
- Prepares long‑range financial forecasts and projections aligned with strategic initiatives and Board‑approved priorities.
- Provides timely, accurate, and transparent financial reporting and analysis to the Principal, administrative team, and Board committees.
- Serves as a strategic thought partner on enrollment trends, tuition strategy, compensation planning, and long‑term financial sustainability.
- Acts as the primary liaison with the school’s external audit firm and leads the annual audit or financial review process.
- Supervises Business Office staff and oversees all accounting functions, including:
- General ledger
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Payroll and benefits administration
- Cash management
- Financial systems and reporting
- Establishes and maintains procedures and internal controls to safeguard assets, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
- Maintains accounting records for the school’s endowment fund and provides reporting to the Investment / Endowment Committee.
- Works closely with the Director of Development to ensure accurate recording and stewardship of donor‑restricted gifts and funds.
- Collaborates with the Director of Admissions and Registrar to ensure proper recording of student financial accounts, tuition charges, and payment plans.
- Oversees the financial aid application, analysis, and award recommendation process and serves on the Financial Assistance Committee.
- Oversees the school’s human resources function, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations and maintaining personnel and payroll records.
- Supports high standards of fairness, accountability, and ethical practice in employment matters.
- Oversees the school’s risk management framework, including policy development, exposure monitoring, insurance relationships, and regulatory compliance.
- Reviews contracts and agreements and works with legal counsel to protect the school’s institutional interests.
- Works closely with the Director of Facilities and Safety to ensure maintenance record‑keeping aligns with industry standards and best practices.
- Provides financial oversight and leadership for cafeteria operations, ensuring sustainability, vendor accountability, and alignment with student nutritional needs.
- Maintains professional relationships with bankers, auditors, attorneys, investment managers, insurance brokers, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with Edgewood University and Edgewood Campus School employees and stakeholders.
- Represents the high school as a key member or officer of the three‑school Edgewood Condominium Board.
- Serves as an ex officio member of the Board’s Business and Finance Committee and Investment / Endowment Committee.
- Provides clear financial reporting and insight to support Board governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Demonstrates integrity, sound judgment, and ethical stewardship of institutional resources.
- Communicates clearly and constructively across departments and stakeholder groups.
- Collaborates with respect and inclusion, contributing to a culture of lifelong learning.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple deadlines, and respond calmly to interruptions.
- Consistently integrates the mission of Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart into daily decisions and recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required.
- CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience.
- Experience in nonprofit, educational, or mission‑driven organizations strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with Boards or Finance Committees.
- Proficiency in financial management systems and advanced spreadsheet modeling.
