Position: Mortgage Processor (Spanish-Bilingual Required)

Overview

The Mortgage Processor I is responsible for the daily loan processing and basic operations for first mortgages. The person in this role is required to be knowledgeable of all UWCU investor guidelines as well as State and Federal regulations. This position ensures a smooth lending process by effectively communicating with members and cross-functional staff. The Mortgage Processor I provides members with reliable, accurate, and timely information necessary to meet their needs;

and works with the member and the loan originator to develop, execute, and meet mutual expectations to ensure member satisfaction, taking ownership to cultivate a positive member relationship throughout the loan process and supporting a smooth transition from loan application to closing.

Responsibilities

Mortgage Loan Operations Responsibilities

  • Use effective time management strategies to maintain a pipeline of mortgage loan files and meet underwriting submission timelines.
  • Process mortgage loan files, analyzing income, assets, credit, and property documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that documentation meets underwriting standards, working with members and loan officers to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Utilize automated underwriting systems and interpret findings to ensure that condition and documentation requirements are satisfied, working with more experienced team members to analyze complex findings.
  • Develop and maintain baseline knowledge of UW Credit Union mortgage programs, WHEDA, FHA, VA, and down payment assistance programs.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and compliance with investor, state, and federal regulations, including TRID, RESPA, and HMDA, escalating questions when needed.
  • Request and track third-party services such as appraisals, title, flood certifications, and 4506-C executions, following up to ensure timely receipt.
  • Analyze third-party service documents to determine discrepancies and charges incurred, accurately preparing and redisclosing loan estimates and adhering to compliance time frames.
  • Communicate with members, and cross-functional partners to request documentation, provide updates, and support a positive member experience.
  • Work collaboratively with mortgage loan officers by participating in pipeline meetings to gain alignment and effectively prioritize outstanding items by reviewing loan status and upcoming deadlines.
  • Perform post-processing tasks with a high degree of accuracy, including reconciling GL accounts, closing out Loan in Process accounts, and properly withdrawing loans per HMDA requirements.
  • Support divisional and organizational success by remaining flexible in role responsibilities and providing coverage or support for other roles as needed.
  • Identify, document, and promptly report system errors, defects, or process issues through established channels, providing clear details to support investigation and resolution.

Balanced Scorecard

  • Achieve scorecard goals by meeting production expectations and turnaround times while delivering a member-focused mortgage processing experience.
  • Maintain a high degree of knowledge in all mortgage products and services to promote seamless mortgage processing interactions.
  • Efficiently utilize mortgage resources to maintain consistent productivity.

Relationship Management & Member Service

  • Demonstrate a service-first approach in interactions with members by listening attentively, responding thoughtfully, and creating a positive member experience.
  • Leverage positive problem-solving skills to resolve member concerns and issues, utilizing internal resources as necessary to support the decision-making process.
  • Respond to and manage member escalations with empathy and a high degree of professionalism, working closely with assigned mortgage loan officers to resolve complaints.
  • Prioritize follow-up by member need and application status, promptly responding to calls and emails to support members and move loans forward.
  • Educate members and provide clear expectations throughout the mortgage origination process including time frames, underwriting guidelines, and internal policies relevant to the member's loan.
