At Madison Credit Union, we proudly serve City of Madison employees, Dane County residents, and our local community. We are seeking an experienced Senior Loan Officer (Internal

Title:

Loan Officer II) to join our lending team. In this high-impact role, you will handle consumer loan origination, contribute to mortgage loan decisions, and provide direct guidance to our members.

What You’ll Do1. Loan Decisioning & Processing
  • Interview applicants, analyze credit reports, evaluate debt-to-income ratios, and make independent consumer credit decisions.
  • Serve on the Mortgage Loan Approval Committee and coordinate mortgage processing from approval to post-closing.
  • Process, complete, and close loan documentation across in-person, phone, and digital channels.
2. Member Guidance & Growth
  • Provide empathetic debt counseling and constructive feedback when loans are denied, helping members map out future financial pathways.
  • Cross-sell relevant financial products and services to deepen member relationships.
3. Quality Assurance & Mentorship
  • Serve as a mentor to less senior loan officers and assist with onboarding new team members.
  • Audit consumer loan files to ensure policy compliance and manage post-closing tasks like HELOC tracking and tax verifications.
What We’re Looking For

Required:
  • 2-5 years of direct consumer lending experience (with actual credit decisioning/underwriting authority).
  • Strong knowledge of credit analysis, debt-ratio calculations, and lending compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic signature and document platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a knack for building rapport- especially when delivering difficult news.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
  • Mortgage lending, processing, or committee experience.
  • Conversational and written Spanish fluency.
  • Proficiency with Excel formulas/functions and basic accounting principles.
  • Notary Public commission (or willingness to become bonded).
  • Degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
