This position is shared between the City of Madison's Parks Division and Parking Division. The successful candidate will provide support to Parking Enforcement during the overnight hours in the winter months. For the remainder of the year, this position will provide Park Ranger patrol coverage to City of Madison Parks.

This is a skilled position responsible for representing the Madison Parks Division and Parking Division in direct contact with the community, often requiring independent judgment in difficult situations.
Areas of responsibility in the Parks Division include customer service, cash management, enforcement of Parks rules and City ordinances, routine custodial and maintenance activities, and coordination of seasonal staff. Work is performed in all types of weather, over varied terrain, and frequently involves varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays (work varies considerably on a seasonal basis). Work is performed independently under the supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator and Lead Park Ranger.
This position is also responsible for periodic cash handling and providing visitor services to park users, including providing first aid. This position involves direct public contact, at times under stressful circumstances, requiring the ability to mitigate conflict tactfully while maintaining personal and public safety.
Areas of responsibility in the Parking Division include uniformed work in the enforcement of City parking ordinances. Working under the limited supervision of the Parking Enforcement Supervisor and Parking Enforcement Lead worker, employees are assigned driving beats to enforce overtime violations, illegal parking, and related violations. Work involves considerable judgment and discretion in taking enforcement actions and/or providing related information/clarifications. Employees also identify abandoned or stolen vehicles and vehicles with outstanding warrants.
Work also involves performing a variety of standard recordkeeping and reporting activities.

Examplesof Duties and Responsibilities Enforcement
- Maintain an accurate log of contacts and actions taken and complete assigned associated reports.
- Follow established procedures for issuance of citations for parking, permit, and ordinance violations.
- Clear and secure park facilities each night, as directed.
- Enforce, compile, and administer Parks Behavioral Policy.
- Control park incident scenes, as assigned, to ensure that first responders are notified, all necessary information is obtained, and all required reports are completed.
- Testify in court regarding issuance of citations or other actions taken, as required.
- Issue parking citations to motor vehicles and/or engage in related informational efforts to achieve compliance.
- Respond to radio dispatch calls regarding parking violations and parking complaints.
- Provide visitor services to park users; answer questions and provide routine customer assistance and information.
- Support shelter rentals and Parks reservations with facility services, shelter cleaning, and resolving user conflicts, as needed.

- Assist community members in locating stolen, towed, or lost vehicles.
