DATCP currently has an opening for a Environmental Specialist - Senior position within the Division of Agricultural Resource Management, Bureau of Land and Water Resources.

This is a field-based position and may be assigned a fleet vehicle for work-related travel. The selected applicants can select a headquarter in a one of the following counties:

Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Florence, Forest, Iron, Oneida, Price, Sawyer, Vilas, Washburn

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee’s assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Position Summary

This position will serve as an environmental specialist, senior level, in the northern Wisconsin area working under the supervision of the Field Services Unit Leader within the Conservation Engineering Section. This position will provide technical assistance to County Land Conservation Department (LCD) staff, other conservation professionals, and landowners in support of federal, state and county programs including Soil and Water Resource Management (SWRM) grants, county land and water resource management plans and manure storage ordinances, and other Land and Water Resource Bureau (LWRB) programs and projects such as Livestock Facility Siting.

This position will provide support, training, and oversight to LCD staff within an assigned multi-county area for the survey, design, installation, and approval of conservation practices for soil and water conservation and animal waste management. This position will be working under the technical direction of an engineer, and in coordination with staff from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

The classification of this position is Environmental Specialist - Senior
, which is in schedule-range 14-14 with a starting pay between $ per hour (salary of $58,240 - $80,246.40 annually) based on qualifications.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

These OJT opportunities and transferable skills include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules. This position will have the opportunity to obtain DATCP Conservation Engineering Practitioner Certification levels.
