Director of Environmental Regulatory Affairs

The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) is a member-driven statewide trade association representing Wisconsin’s paper, pulp, and forestry industries. We advocate strategically on behalf of these industries to state and federal policymakers, achieving positive policy outcomes.

The WPC is seeking a dynamic Director of Environmental Regulatory Affairs to lead our efforts in environmental relations and regulatory impact analysis for our paper industry membership. This role offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to develop and implement strategies that assist the paper, pulp and forestry industries in navigating state and federal environmental regulatory processes.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Policy or Engineering, Paper Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of experience with environmental background OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in industry safety is a plus. Juris Doctor degree a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Technical and persuasive communication skills are highly desirable.
• Monitor and analyze regulatory matters pertinent to the paper industry and provide accurate, up-to-date information and strategic advice to WPC members.
• Familiarity with relevant technical environmental issues pertaining to state and federal air, water and solid waste.
• Ability to collaborate with key stakeholders and regulatory agency personnel (WDNR, EPA, WDHS) is preferred. Familiarity with legislative policy a plus.
• Familiarity with Wisconsin, federal and voluntary compliance programs related to environment and sustainability and certifications is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of the pulp, paper and forest products industries or similar continuous process industries is a plus.
• Ability for limited travel as needed. Travel to WPC events, member locations and regulatory meetings when needed are typical trips within the State.
