Protective Service Specialist

Wisconsin Municipal Mutual Insurance Company (WMMIC) is seeking a part-time Protective Service Specialist to support serve as trusted public safety agencies across risk expert for Wisconsin. In this consultative role, you will help sheriffs' offices, police departments, fire departments, fire, and EMS agencies. This role provides high-impact consultation, training and loss-control support that helps municipal members reduce risk liability, prevent injuries, strengthen safety practices policies, and improve operational readiness.

As the Protective Service Specialist, you will serve as WMMIC's public safety risk resource for Wisconsin sheriff, police, fire, and EMS agencies. You will provide consultation, training, program support, and recommendations that help WMMIC's members. This position reduces liability exposure, prevents injuries, and strengthens public safety operations.

You will work directly with member leadership, training staff, municipal administrators, and internal WMMIC teams to assess needs, identify emerging risks, develop safety initiatives, and deliver responsive support statewide.

Conduct on-site safety, operational, and risk assessments for law enforcement, jail operations, fire service, and EMS agencies.

Provide best-practice recommendations aligned with applicable standards and Wisconsin requirements to reduce workers' compensation claims, liability exposure, and operational hazards.

Identify trends in high-risk activities such as use of force, apparatus operations, emergency vehicle incidents, roadway safety, responder exposures, and fatigue-related risks.

Design and deliver training for public safety personnel on risk mitigation, safety culture, ethics, incident prevention, and operational readiness.

Assist members with developing or updating policies, standard operating procedures, and training plans.

Create educational materials, safety bulletins, risk alerts, and other tools that support sheriffs, police, fire, and EMS agencies.

Serve as a trusted resource for public safety agencies by providing responsive support and practical guidance.

Facilitate communication with chiefs, sheriffs, command staff, training divisions, municipal administrators, and risk managers.

Represent WMMIC at conferences, regional meetings, and professional associations to strengthen partnerships and support continuous improvement.

Monitor claim trends, operational losses, and emerging risks to guide program improvements and member recommendations.

Collaborate with internal teams, including claims, loss control, and member services, to analyze data and develop targeted risk-reduction strategies.

Complete timely reporting, documentation, and follow-up for consultations, projects, and protective-services initiatives.

Perform other related duties as needed to support departmental goals and organizational success.

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, fire science, public administration, safety management, or a related field.

At least five years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, fire service, EMS, risk management, or public-sector safety leadership.
