Job Summary

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials.

In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position will serve as a public health record abstractor on the Wisconsin Surveillance of Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities System (WISADDS) project, a project funded as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. WISADDS is a public health project that conducts population-based, multi-source surveillance of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) among children in a 10-county area of southeastern Wisconsin.

WISADDS adheres to a surveillance methodology developed by CDC involving screening and abstraction of data from records at multiple sources.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Analyzes data and summarizes research results for a defined research area or study by utilizing established processes
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for individuals and groups providing basic information about result analysis and methodologies, answers questions as needed
  • Maintains organization of research records and responds to data requests and inquiries
  • Prepares reports and manuscripts and assists with the development and presentation of materials through various communication platforms

Compensation

$51,955 minimum;
Salary is negotiable and will be based on education, experience and skills. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts and retirement benefits.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, etc.)
  • Previous work experience in child development, psychology, special education, public health, social work a related area.
  • Previous experience working with computerized data collection and familiarity with medical records.
  • Experience using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap).
  • Excellent typing and computer skills as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience adhering to a project or study protocol.
Education

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A degree in Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, Public Health, Social Work or a related field is preferred.
