SPARC Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse – SPARC (BHN)

1.0 FTE / 40 Hours per week
The SPARC Behavioral Health Clinical Nurse (BHN) participates as an integral member of the SPARC subspecialty clinic. The SPARC BHN performs clinical, administrative and technical tasks that contribute to smooth workflow and high‑quality patient care within the SPARC clinic and provides additional support to outpatient psychiatric providers and the BHN team.
Responsibilities- Administer and record results of the DIVA‑5 or other semi‑structured interview and screening tools; communicate results via EMR and discussion to the SPARC team or referring provider.
- Support Epic in‑basket workflow by reviewing team/provider in‑baskets and MyChart messages.
- Coordinate review and follow‑up of phone requests for medical advice and prescription refills within SPARC.
- Complete and document reviews of controlled substance prescriptions within the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.
- Return phone calls, complete pre‑visit preparation, monitor patient flow, assist with triage and patient scheduling.
- Coordinate with other departments, services and programs relevant to the SPARC workflow and those referred for DIVA‑5 by outpatient psychiatry team.
- Represent the organization positively and adhere to GHC‑SCW policies, mission, vision and values.
- Current licensed registered nurse (RN) in Wisconsin or a multistate license in a state licensure compact (eNLC).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required.
- Valid CPR/AED certificate required; must obtain within four months of employment.
- One year of relevant experience working in a clinic or outpatient setting is desirable; a strong interest in behavioral health is required.
- Knowledge of diagnostic interviewing skills, motivational interviewing, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, HIPAA, and EMR systems, especially EPIC.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; superior telephone communication ability.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and ability to work with a diverse patient population.
- Physical ability to bend, reach, lift, pull, push and carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods.
- Valid Wisconsin driver license if required to operate a motor vehicle.
