Position OverviewThe Sr. Tactical Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist will provide leadership services within the technical specialist team, and with the clinical laboratory areas. This role will perform all functions of a Clinical
Laboratory Technical Specialist (I, II, and Senior) while also mentoring and supporting Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist team members. The Sr. Tactical Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist will ensure timely turnaround for the various tasks the technical specialist team is assigned to. This position will work directly with Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist to act proactively to anticipate and resolve issues related to efficiencies in throughput, staffing, and laboratory processes and elevate any noted issues to affected stakeholders.
The Sr. Tactical Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist will use their subject matter expertise to carry out, direct, and/or advise various major project initiatives and investigations.
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Understand and assist in the technical nature of the position, if necessary, while working with the Supervisor, Technical Specialists.
- Serve as a technical lead on complex projects to improve existing lab processes and update the Technical Specialist team and project team of relevant status updates.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert and/or advisor for various laboratory improvement initiatives including integration of new automation and/or new assays.
- Develop and execute assignments on time as dictated by project schedule and meet milestone dates for assigned projects and initiatives.
- Communicate delays to project managers and provide possible solutions to get projects back on track or assess the impact of the delay.
- Drive solutions to completion through communication, documentation, and other appropriate avenues.
- Apply learning on complex operations and be involved with high-level troubleshooting and problem solving in order to apply solutions.
- Ensure quality and timeliness of patient test results by investigating complex problems involving specimen collection, result reporting, and turn-around time. Interpret problems with specimens which meet the rejection criteria for unacceptable samples.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure consistent run validity and instrument performance as it relates to result handling and turnaround time.
- Support the creation and maintenance of systems for production and training purposes, such as laboratory information systems, Exact Sciences system software (ESSS), and other platforms, including planning, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and documentation of code changes.
- Coordinate with the laboratory, development teams, and other stakeholders to determine priorities of new initiatives and changes.
- Communicate with multiple internal and external departments including, but not limited to, lab support teams and Clinical Laboratory Leadership, on a routine basis.
- Implement changes to assays, workflows, and sample handling, and provide support to leadership and team during transitional phases, including creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
- Assist in planning, writing, and executing various laboratory procedures, verifications, and validations relating to laboratory tests, workflow, instrumentation, and sample handling and transportation.
- Pull, analyze, and interpret sample and instrument data and provide this information to other departments and customers, as needed.
- Support the development and upkeep of various applications and dashboards supporting the clinical laboratory.
- Mentor and support Technical Specialist.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the company products and processes.
- Possess advanced knowledge of lab practices and procedures including CAP and CLIA compliance and apply this knowledge and skillset to manage assignments.
- Drive discussion and facilitation of project initiation and change implementation.
- Demonstrate Project Management skills.
- Adaptable to rapid changes in priorities.
- Perform moderate and high complexity analytic processes without direct supervision. Use routine and specialized automated and non-automated laboratory procedures and techniques after training and competency assessments.
- Partner with the Supervisor, Technical Specialists to monitor, assess, and complete team training and competencies, as necessary.
- Manage time effectively between multiple competing priorities and provide written and verbal instructions to other team members.
