Job Summary:

UHS Prevention is recruiting a Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Specialist to join our team. This position will work closely with registered student organizations, student leaders, and campus partners to advance mental health promotion and prevention strategies across UW-Madison. This role will provide support and build capacity by:

  • Delivering, evaluating, and improving suicide prevention and mental health promotion training and resources for students and staff at UW-Madison
  • Advising, supporting, and mentoring registered student organizations with missions and work related to mental health and suicide prevention
  • Cultivating interest among registered student organizations in adopting health-promoting policies, systems, and environments
  • Maintaining expertise on evidence-based strategies for peer support, peer education, student advocacy, student engagement, and student development
  • Collaborating with campus partners to deploy and evaluate health promotion strategies and programs for students
  • Coordinating and aligning with UHS prevention, data, and communications teams
  • May supervise student employees

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention.

Schedule:

This hybrid position requires a minimum of 60% on-site work at the University of Madison campus.

This position may require working occasional evening and weekend hours during the academic year to support student programs, student organizations and campus initiatives.

Key

Job Responsibilities:

  • Advise registered student organizations and support UHS prevention dual registration program
  • Gathers and evaluates population-level health data and engages with stakeholders to discern needs and interests and build capacity for population-level health improvement
  • Applies evidence-based theories, frameworks, and assessments according to current health research and practice
  • Develops, implements, organizes, and evaluates population-health initiatives based on sound data, theory, and evidence
  • Provides consultation, training, and capacity-building resources for stakeholders to advance a health-promoting setting with respect to policies, learning and working environments, physical spaces, services and support, student development, and/or opportunities for social connectedness

UHS Prevention works to build the capacity of our campus community to support and advance population-level health promotion and prevention strategies. We collaborate with partners to enhance data-informed policies, systems, environments and programs at UW-Madison. Our focus areas include suicide prevention and mental health promotion, sexual and relationship violence prevention, alcohol and other drug prevention. This role is within the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Team.

Compensation:

The minimum salary for this position is $63,000, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
