Job Summary:

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is the state's public and environmental health laboratory. As part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the WSLH is committed to exploring new ideas which benefit the state, the nation and the world. The WSLH Communicable Disease Division (CDD) provides essential laboratory support in accordance with the public health goals of the state and the Wisconsin Division of Health Services (WDHS), performing over 150 clinical diagnostic and surveillance tests in support of WDHS, Wisconsin clinical laboratories, other state and regional public health laboratories and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Communicable Disease Division (CDD) Data and Informatics team is seeking a professional to join the team as a Lab Assistant. Under close supervision, this position's primary job function will be data entry of laboratory test orders, received electronically or by requisition, into Epic Beaker, the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The position will also facilitate clinical specimen transport, perform customer service responsibilities, and complete clerical tasks like sorting, scanning, and filing records both physically and electronically.

Skill and experience following written policies/procedures and using Microsoft Excel is required. Previous experience with Epic Systems software is preferred. This position will complete other tasks and projects as assigned.

This position is on-site at 2601 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718. Work hours are 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasional after hours, weekend or holiday work may be required in support of urgent or emergent public health needs of the organization.

Compensation:

Minimum Hourly Rate: $23.46

Depending on the experience of a successful candidate, the position will pay according to the salary administration guidelines.
Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience following written policies and standard operating procedures
  • Strong keyboarding skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional communication skills – written and oral
  • Experience in customer service
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using Epic Systems software
  • Clinical or public health laboratory experience or knowledge
Education:

High School Diploma, preferred.
