Join our Product Legal team as a Senior Product Counsel, focusing on the innovative Base Layer 2 blockchain. In this essential role, you will navigate complex initiatives related to the Base ecosystem. Your responsibilities will include supporting operations while ensuring compliance and integration of Coinbase and Base-native products. You will work closely with the legal team to address multifaceted challenges that shape blockchain technology and its evolution.

• Develop the legal framework supporting Base's onchain mission and strategy.
• Play a critical role in the grants ecosystem by managing legal processes for funding innovative Base projects.
• Ensure compliance and sound legal practices while integrating Coinbase and external services within the Base ecosystem.
• Act as a proactive business partner in addition to your legal responsibilities.
• Provide comprehensive counseling throughout the product life cycle.
• Anticipate challenges and creatively problem-solve as teams develop and execute their product strategies.
• Collaborate with colleagues to resolve issues falling outside your direct expertise, engaging with other legal team members and outside counsel as necessary.
• Work cross-departmentally with teams such as Compliance, Communications, Finance, Tax, Security, Risk Management, Engineering, Data, Analytics, and the leadership team at Coinbase.
• Respond efficiently to a variety of complex legal inquiries, ensuring timely delivery of sound legal advice.
• Thrive in a demanding environment and quickly adapt to emerging leadership needs.
• Scale your legal advice to maximize efficiency and align with business growth.

• Currently licensed in a U.S. state with a J.D. or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of legal experience.
• Strong, in-depth legal practice and practical experience in crypto, web3, DeFi, protocols, or blockchain.
• Preferred, but not required:
  Financial technology experience.
• Experience advising product teams on launching consumer or developer-facing technology products and services.
• A strong interest or background in digital currency, blockchain technology, and decentralized finance innovations.
• Understanding the legal and regulatory landscape affecting crypto protocols and onchain products, including implications of decentralized architectures on product design.
• Experience with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, and knowledge of banking regulations regarding e-money and money transmission.
• Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Sound legal judgment combined with analytical rigor and a balance of creativity and practicality.
• Comfortable with risk-adjusted thinking, knowing when flexibility in interpretation is necessary.
• A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, engaging cross-departmental colleagues to support the successful development and launch of crypto products at Coinbase.

• A technical or engineering background (Bachelor of Science).
• Experience with blockchain protocols, rollups, Layer 2 solutions (e.g., Bitcoin core team, Ethereum Foundation, Polygon, Solana, Optimism).

Compensation: Depending on your work location, the anticipated annual base salary for this role ranges from $224,995 to $264,700 USD. Full-time offers at Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity compensation, and comprehensive benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
