Proudly a Bargaining Unit Position with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
The Opportunity: As the Deputy Data Director, you will serve as the technical and strategic co-pilot for the Data Department. You are the vital link between our complex data infrastructure and the staff and volunteers working on the ground. Partnering closely with the Organizing and Voter Protection teams, you will build the pipelines, automate the workflows, and design the reports that ensure our resources are deployed effectively.
This role requires an intelligent, self-starting individual who is just as comfortable writing complex SQL queries as they are patiently training a County Party Chair on how to use VAN. You will help turn millions of data points into actionable insights that win elections.
You're our person if:
- You are a technical builder. You have advanced skills in SQL, Python, and Google Big Query, and you love creating automated pipelines that save your team hours of manual work.
- You are a "Data Translator." You know that a brilliant dashboard is only useful if people know how to read it. You can explain complex data systems to organizers, volunteers, and stakeholders who are not tech-savvy.
- You have a service mindset. You don't mind managing a ticketing system or fielding urgent requests. You enjoy helping people troubleshoot their tech issues so they can get back to talking to voters.
- You are fast and flexible. Campaign data moves at lightning speed. You thrive when providing rapid-turnaround analysis and adapting to shifting electoral priorities.
- Accountability & Solution-Oriented: You take full ownership of your code and your commitments. When a data integration breaks or a pipeline fails, you approach it with a problem-solving mindset rather than pointing fingers.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: You actively break down silos, working seamlessly with the Organizing and Voter Protection teams to ensure they have the tools they need to hit their goals.
- Growth & Adaptability: You are dedicated to continuous improvement. You proactively seek, offer, and act on feedback with openness and can anticipate potential data obstacles to take proactive steps.
- Respect & Inclusion: You build strong relationships by treating everyone with kindness, dignity, and trust. You approach interactions assuming positive intent.
- Transparent Communication: You communicate openly and honestly to build trust and alignment. You are proactive in setting clear expectations about data delivery timelines.
Data Engineering & Analytics:
- Build and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and automated workflows using tools such as Google Big Query and Python.
- Design and build reports, dashboards, and tools for internal departments (particularly Organizing and Voter Protection) and external partners.
- Produce and share timely analysis of voter contact results, early vote and absentee turnout, voter registration, and other critical campaign metrics.
- Field requests for specialized research projects and data analysis, often requiring rapid turnaround.
- Maintain and respond to our internal ticketing system, fulfilling data support requests and list exports for staff, candidates, volunteers, and County Parties.
- Implement systems for access and data sharing within Vote builder (VAN), including managing users, user profiles, and committees.
- Develop and present VAN training materials to the organizing team and external stakeholders in statewide, small group, and one-on-one settings.
- Support the administration of voter contact tools such as VAN, Hubdialer, Reach, and other platforms.
- Manage all aspects of "Packet land"-serving as the primary technical architect for the state's canvassing infrastructure by coding the necessary data pipelines, tracking deadlines, and communicating core strategic decisions to other departments.
- Required Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: Advanced technical ability coding in SQL, Python, and Google Sheets.
- Pipeline Management: Experience creating and managing data pipelines and workflows.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrably excellent interpersonal and…
