The Engineer, Data Integration is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions that enable secure, scalable, reliable, and governed data exchange across internal applications, cloud platforms, third-party vendors, healthcare partners, analytics platforms, automation services, and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Operating within an Azure-first, Databricks-centric environment, the Data Integration Engineer develops and supports API-based integrations, event-driven architectures, healthcare data exchanges, SaaS integrations, cloud-native messaging platforms, and enterprise workflow automation capabilities.
This role serves as a key technical contributor in the organization's transition from traditional batch-based and point-to-point integrations toward modern API-first, event-driven, cloud-native integration architectures.
The Engineer, Data Integration collaborates closely with Data Engineers, Data Architects, Dev Ops Engineers, Cloud Engineers, Software Engineers, Security teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to enable seamless interoperability between operational systems, data platforms, automation platforms, analytics environments, machine learning solutions, robotic process automation (RPA) platforms, and enterprise AI initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring integrations are secure, scalable, observable, compliant, resilient, and aligned with regulatory requirements including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and enterprise cybersecurity standards.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise integration solutions utilizing APIs, event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, and cloud-native integration services.
- Develop and support integrations between healthcare platforms, pharmacy systems, claims systems, eligibility platforms, financial systems, SaaS applications, partner ecosystems, and enterprise data platforms.
- Design and implement API-based integration patterns utilizing REST APIs, GraphQL, SOAP services, webhooks, and modern service-oriented architectures.
- Design and support event-driven architectures utilizing Azure Event Hub, Event Grid, Service Bus, Kafka-compatible services, and messaging platforms.
- Build and maintain secure integrations supporting Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, analytics platforms, reporting systems, AI services, and operational applications.
- Design and implement healthcare data exchange solutions supporting claims, eligibility, pharmacy, clinical, operational, financial, and third-party partner data.
- Develop integration mappings, transformation rules, canonical message structures, interface specifications, and data exchange standards.
- Support ingestion and movement of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data across enterprise systems and cloud platforms.
- Partner with Data Engineering teams to support ingestion of source system data into lake house environments and enterprise data platforms.
- Support enterprise AI, machine learning, analytics, and automation initiatives through development of secure, scalable integration services and data exchange capabilities.
- Design integrations supporting intelligent automation, robotic process automation (RPA), workflow orchestration, agent-based AI solutions, and low-code/no-code platforms.
- Develop and maintain integrations utilizing Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus, Event Hub, Event Grid, and related Azure-native services.
- Design reusable integration frameworks, patterns, templates, and standards supporting enterprise interoperability initiatives.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines supporting integration deployment, testing, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Develop automated integration testing, validation, monitoring, and observability capabilities.
- Monitor integration performance, throughput, latency, failures, and service health while implementing proactive remediation and alerting.
- Implement secure integration practices including authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, auditing, and compliance controls.
- Support API lifecycle management, API governance, versioning, throttling, monitoring, and developer enablement practices.
- Collaborate with security teams to implement secure service-to-service communication, RBAC, managed identities, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and enterprise security controls.
- Maintain integration architecture documentation, interface specifications, operational runbooks, data flow diagrams, and support procedures.
- Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, architecture reviews, and agile delivery processes.
- Evaluate emerging integration technologies, automation platforms, API management capabilities, and cloud-native integration services.
