Department Overview
The Traffic Operations Safety (TOPS) Lab is part of the Department of Civil and Environmental engineering (CEE) and is a comprehensive state-of-the-art program spanning many elements of transportation research and development. The TOPS Lab is the focal point of traffic operations and safety research at UW-Madison and works closely with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) on a variety of system development and data management projects.
This position will support the TOPS Lab computer needs.

ScheduleA flexible schedule of 8 to 20 hours per week between 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday thru Friday. Prefer minimum of 3 days in per week but more is better.
Salary/Wage RangeMinimum: $13.00 Maximum: $15.00

QualificationsUW Madison Student
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to learn more about Microsoft operating system and enterprise networks.
- Comfortable working with computer hardware including replacing computer components such as memory and hard drives.
- Customer service - courteous, respectful, responsive, and good communication.
- Student must be able to balance work with school and be able to prioritize tasks.
- Extra consideration for applicants with experience working and managing Word Press sites.
- This position will learn how to manage and create accounts for the TOPS Lab Wis Tans portal web portal ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). This requires daily monitoring and attention to email requests.
- TOPS Lab support uses an e-mail ticketing system. Student must be willing to work with e-mail daily and comfortable with walk-ins as well.
- This position requires regular install of an operating system and applications on desktops and laptops.
- Moving and connecting desktops and monitors is often necessary.
- Support the hardware and software needs of 20-30 TOPS staff and students.
- Support the CEE lab laptop cart. Will require going to Engineering Hall.
- Support printers and other peripherals.
- Content management on Word Press web sites.
- Will have opportunity to work with some software development as a secondary task. TOPS lab works mostly with Java.
Be able to lift 35 pounds and be able to get down on the floor to move and connect up computers.
