Position: IT Operations Supervisor (Madison)

Position Description

We are recruiting for an IT Operations Supervisor (IS Supervisor 2 classification) at the State Public Defenders (SPD) in Madison, WI. The position is headquartered at 17 South Fairchild St., Madison, WI. The role reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and provides operational leadership across SPD’s IT Department.

Position Summary

The incumbent exercises operational oversight across the department’s technology portfolio, including IT service management (ITSM) and support, cybersecurity and risk management, database and application development, digital workplace initiatives, and IT training. Responsibilities include managing multifaceted teams, establishing rigorous process documentation, enforcing compliance with state security mandates such as CJIS, driving IT performance metrics, ensuring project delivery within scope and budget, and acting as backup for the CIO when unavailable.

  • Supervise technical staff and provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation for IT operations.
  • Enforce compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and improve IT performance metrics.
  • Oversee project delivery and maintain budget control.
  • Lead Identity and Access Management (IAM) and security governance initiatives.
  • Coordinate technology implementations to ensure alignment with agency standards.
Salary and Benefits

This classification is in pay schedule/range 70‑02. The starting hourly pay range is $41.03 to $65.22 per hour ($85,342 to $135,657 per year). A one‑year probationary period may be required. The employee may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement.
