Your day as a Director of Legal Affairs

As the Director of Legal Affairs at The Wisconsin Credit Union League, you will work with our credit union members to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Expect to research, develop, and update The League's compliance information and materials for use by credit unions and League staff. Your role will also involve consulting with regulators, credit union representatives, league staff, and legal counsel to address or resolve compliance and operational issues.

Additionally, you will provide training and support on legal matters to credit unions.

You’ll foster a culture of legal excellence and integrity across the organization, ensuring that our members receive the highest level of service and protection.

To be successful as the Director of Legal Affairs at The Wisconsin Credit Union League, candidates should possess a robust set of skills that align with our core values. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are essential for navigating complex legal issues and formulating effective solutions. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities are crucial for articulating legal concepts clearly and building relationships with stakeholders.

A customer‑centric mindset will enable you to prioritize member needs while ensuring compliance and legal integrity. Strong negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills are necessary for managing disputes and fostering cooperation among diverse groups. A Juris Doctorate (JD) is required from an accredited law school, as well as active membership in the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Additionally, a keen attention to detail will ensure accuracy in legal documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements. Candidates should also demonstrate adaptability and creativity in problem‑solving, as challenges may arise that require innovative thinking. Finally, effective leadership and team collaboration skills will be vital for guiding and enhancing the organization's commitment to excellence.
