This essential role aligns our operations with company policies and the legal framework governing mortgage servicing, lending, and consumer protection.
As a government contractor, we have specific requirements for this position, which include experience in the mortgage banking industry and relevant educational qualifications. The target compensation for this role ranges from $75,000.00 to $95,000.00.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in resolving litigation cases by collecting and organizing critical information for settlement evaluations, including drafting requests for settlement approval.
- Support the legal team in addressing routine legal issues with guidance from senior personnel.
- Open and manage cases within our case management system, including handling incoming correspondence and service of process documents.
- Review and analyze pleadings from third parties or those prepared by outside counsel, including summons, complaints, affidavits, answers, motions, orders, and judgments.
- Prepare discovery responses and collaborate with various business units to ensure thoroughness.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of legal documents by meticulously reviewing and correcting discrepancies.
- Manage document subpoenas, gathering relevant records and drafting formal responses.
- Oversee litigation matters from initiation to closure, including selecting counsel and monitoring case progress.
- Coordinate logistics for mediations, depositions, and other critical events requiring attendance.
- Effectively manage communications with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure adherence to loan servicing agreements and internal authority thresholds at all times.
- Conduct comprehensive factual research from various sources to bolster legal proceedings.
- Prepare administrative requests and labels for office‑related tasks to support the legal team.
- Conduct pre‑claim title reviews by analyzing title records and submitting claims to insurers.
- Act as a liaison between outside counsel and internal departments, facilitating effective communication.
- Provide administrative support to legal staff, including scheduling and managing communications efficiently.
- Maintain an organized calendar of important events and deadlines to ensure timely actions.
- Ensure the accuracy of matter‑related reports and documents through diligent review.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing, lending operations, and related litigation.
- A collaborative spirit with the ability to work independently as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Sharp analytical and organizational abilities.
- Experience collaborating with outside counsel, vendors, and various business units.
- A keen problem‑solver who pays attention to detail and encourages collaboration.
- Strong decision‑making skills with regard to team and organizational impact.
- Ability to accurately record and track time spent on tasks.
- Associate's degree and paralegal certification or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a paralegal.
- A minimum of two years of experience in the mortgage banking and servicing sector.
- Additionally, experience with litigation case management systems, particularly Legal Tracker, is preferred.
