Job SummarySafety-focused business partner providing strategic consultation and leadership in the development of comprehensive safety management systems. This position implements effective training initiatives, provides targeted risk analysis, and audits programs to measure efficacy. It provides proactive leadership to regional Trane employees, manages environmental health, safety and security activities, programs and incident prevention, and ensures compliance with Trane, local, state, provincial and national requirements.
The role establishes and promotes a strong safety culture and a healthy work environment.
- Inspire employee action affecting leading indicators, including employee involvement and management commitment.
- Lead and manage the Regional EHS team.
- Participate as an active member of the Upper Midwest Regional Leadership Team to support regional operations success.
- Report to the Senior North America Field Operations EHS Leader with dotted line to the Regional General Manager (VP).
- Provide support for other Company teams as needed, including North America and Enterprise EHS support.
- Proactively lead and coordinate EHS processes for the region, including Commercial Sales Office locations and Rental Services in the Upper Midwest, remote Trane teams, and supported stores as directed.
- Develop, implement, and measure the success of safety programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures in alignment with Corporate and Business Unit expectations.
- Ensure accountability and interactions between stakeholders and leadership.
- Lead incident and illness management using established EHS data processes and report incidents, injuries, illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, and action items.
- Analyze data to coordinate safety improvements across the region.
- Visit job sites and dispersed workforce locations regularly to ensure EHS processes are effectively implemented and corrective actions are completed timely.
- Oversee workers’ compensation program administration and support return-to-work programs.
- Drive incident and near-miss reporting; perform root cause analysis with operations SMEs and leadership to prevent recurrence.
- Facilitate EHS training and orientation; identify training requirements and ensure training effectiveness and compliance.
- Maintain EHS records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure contractors and subcontractors have effective safety processes through pre-qualifications and site visits.
- Collaborate with business teams to develop safety policies, projects, campaigns, committees, and compliance audits.
- Provide information, metrics, and programs to customers for contractor qualifications as required.
- Coach/mentor employees and leadership on safe work practices, hazard identification, and risk management.
- Direct risk assessments and recommend control measures for potential concerns.
- Prepare technical EHS regulatory reporting.
- Lead the process for reviewing and approving safety data sheets and chemical requests.
- Organize teams/committees to identify and implement safety improvements, waste reductions, and resource conservation.
- Oversee the facility emergency response team, ensuring training, drills, and readiness for emergencies and crisis management.
- Advise and communicate with leadership on EHS and wellness matters within the region.
- Support other Trane regions as needed.
- Travel up to 50% in the region, with about 25% overnight stays; travel to other locations and customer sites. A fleet vehicle is provided for travel.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or Safety Sciences/Engineering, or related field preferred.
- One or more safety-related professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHSM) desired.
- Minimum of 7+ years of practical EHS management experience at a medium-large site (10+ years preferred).
