The Plant Manager is responsible for all safety, food safety, operations, maintenance, quality, supply chain and sanitation activities in the facility. Monitors and tracks production /maintenance performance and key performance metric; leads process improvements throughout the operation. Champions lean manufacturing, cost savings and efficiency. Provides process expertise and staff development to insure plan is met. Holds team accountable for compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, SQF, GMP and USDA requirement throughout facility.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Promote and ensure compliance with all established safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee production operations across blending, extrusion, packaging, and palletizing areas to ensure an efficient production process.
  • Supervise and support managers by providing guidance, direction, and resources to achieve operational goals and support future planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate continuous improvement efforts; evaluate operations processes and methods and provide recommendations to improve processes.
  • Collaborate with members of the management team to develop, review, and revise Standard Operating Procedures to support operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Identify & eliminate root causes and diminish non-conformance occurrences in the manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure routine and pertinent communications of daily production schedule and key information to facility.
  • Staffing needs required meet production plan.
  • Review daily shift production, maintenance, sanitation, and supply chain reports
  • Oversee and address production needs, changes, and schedules.
  • Monitor and track downtime.
  • Compile weekly production metrics reports, monitoring yield, waste, #2, inedible, and OEE for the shift; present operational results weekly
  • Provide trained staff to manage production supply usage, monitoring incoming and outgoing supplies and finished goods.
  • Identify training and development needs of personnel assigned to the shift and ensure training is provided in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the performance management process, ensuring performance reviews and disciplinary actions are completed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the sanitation and Master Sanitation activities on the shift.
  • Assist with maintaining SQF compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all established GMP, USDA-FSIS and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Oversee the completion of Accident & Near Miss incident investigations; ensure resolution of all safety issues and concerns from a corrective actions and preventive measures standpoint.
  • Provide backup assistance to the Facilitators in the event of absences as needed
  • Foster and support a positive, open and inclusive work environment.
  • Support and promote the Lean Manufacturing Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and align capital plan for Fiscal year
  • Production Manager Supervisor will fill for Plant Manager in their absence.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises the Operations Manager, Blending Manager, Maintenance Manager, Logistics Manager, HR Manager, and QA Manager. Provides leadership, guidance, and direction to the management team to ensure operational goals, company standards, and performance expectations are achieved. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training members; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance;

recognizing and addressing performance issues; resolving complaints; and addressing personnel matters. Collaborates with department leaders to strengthen support staff knowledge, develop team expertise, and promote operational efficiency across all functions.

Education

A Bachelors degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering or Food Science or related field is required; or if non-degreed, a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Prior experience in a USDA-regulated food manufacturing is a plus.
