Description
A Tool and Die Maker is responsible for constructing, maintaining and repairing casting die and trim die components. Support all other departments as required to meet production needs. Assist in the training of tool room and die maintenance personnel. Maintain assigned equipment by performing normal maintenance and scheduled TPM’s.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assist in final fitting of cavity parting lines, slide tips, slide locks, etc.
- Assigned tooling responsibility – responsible for maintaining a production capable tool (manage core inventory and repairs).
- Capable of using Auto Vue to view designs
- Capable and willing to train others within the department.
- Assist and trouble shoot dies that are not working.
- Must be willing and capable of making the repair to a die while it is on the die cast machine.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic cylinders makeup.
- Basic CNC offline Programmer (set-up and operation) of CNC;
- Mazak Lathe, Mazak Mill, Mikron Mill, Top 1 Mill Agie Sinker EDM, Mitsubishi Wire EDM, 2 axis mills.
- Setup and operate all conventional tool room equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis.
- Technical degree in a Machine Tool or similar program.
- Completed a 5 year State Indentured Tool & Die Apprenticeship Program preferred.
- 10 years on the job experience in the Tool and Die Maker trade preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Subject matter expert knowledge in Tool and Die work
- Capable of welding tool steels
- Proficient communication skills within the department.
- Proficient in reading prints (Product drawings, Die Cast and Trim Die prints)
- Proficient in use of measuring instruments. (Micrometers, Dial Indicators, etc.)
- Proficient communication skills within the department.
- Proficient in assembling a casting die.
- Capable in creating setup and operator instructions
- Capable of creating Maintenance Work Requisition s.
