Job Overview
Tool & Die Technician – 3rd Shift (11:30pm–7:30am), Lafayette, Indiana. Hourly compensation $38.52–$49.03 per hour plus a 6% shift premium. Eligible applicants may receive a $5,000 sign‑on bonus and up to $15,000 relocation assistance if moving into the area.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and adjust machine tools to perform machining operations for dies, jigs, fixtures, repair parts, tooling, and experimental parts to required tolerances.
- Determine methods and procedures for operations, including improvising setups and selecting materials and tooling.
- Use gauges, perform basic welding, and apply heat treatment.
- Maintain general housekeeping and other duties to keep a safe and productive department.
- Operate CNC‑controlled machines, reading, writing, and editing programs.
- Use basic computer skills with experience in Office 365.
- Communicate verbally and electronically with team members and supervisors.
- Work overtime as needed to support production demands.
- Six or more years of job shop or tool room experience, or an associate degree from an accredited technical school with four years of experience, or completion of an accredited four‑year Toolmaker Apprenticeship.
- Competence in CNC programming and operation of multi‑power machines (grinders, mills, lathes, drills, welding, heat treat, jig/bore grinding).
- Ability to achieve and gauge tight tolerance parts and to determine necessary heat treatment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing fixtures, tooling, and machines in the shop.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and ability to interpret complex machine schematics and blueprints.
- Successful completion of the Tooling Services Intermediate Math assessment is highly desirable.
Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for eight or more hours. The position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds and to perform repetitive hand movements with a variety of tooling. Ability to work in heights and confined spaces is also required.
