Grinder
This role focuses on operating grinding and polishing equipment to produce high-quality metal work pieces that meet precise specifications. You inspect machinery and parts, perform basic maintenance and repairs, and ensure that all finished products meet strict quality standards in a modern, climate-controlled fabrication environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect machinery and metal work pieces regularly to verify compliance with specifications and prevent malfunctions and production losses.
- Dress grinding wheels according to required specifications to maintain optimal machine performance and surface finish quality.
- Monitor machines during operation, stop equipment immediately when problems are detected, and make necessary adjustments promptly to minimize downtime.
- Provide quality control by inspecting work pieces as they exit the equipment and removing or addressing any defective pieces.
- Operate grinding, polishing, and related machinery to grind metal work pieces to prescribed dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
- Finish products by hand using appropriate hand tools to file, deburr, and refine surfaces to the required standards.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and routine inspections, to keep all machinery running efficiently.
- Identify worn or broken parts and perform basic repairs, including part replacement, within the expected scope of knowledge.
- Use pneumatic and air tools, grinders, and other power tools safely and effectively during fabrication and deburring processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe operations and consistent product quality.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience operating grinders and related metal fabrication equipment.
- Proficiency using air tools, pneumatic tools, and other power tools in a production or fabrication setting.
- Ability to work confidently with hand and power tools for grinding, polishing, deburring, and finishing operations.
- Knowledge of basic fabrication processes and techniques related to metal work pieces.
- Capability to inspect parts and machinery and interpret specifications to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Skill in performing basic mechanical adjustments and minor repairs on production equipment.
- Attention to detail and strong focus on quality control when inspecting finished work pieces.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and operate tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with deburring processes and finishing metal components by hand.
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems and air-powered tools in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working with polishing equipment and grinders to achieve specific surface finishes.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment issues and identifying worn components.
- Ability to work a consistent 2nd shift schedule and support occasional voluntary overtime.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean, efficient, and safe work area.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41000.00 - $57000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
