Madison, WI – Robertson Rd – Filling industrial. Airgas is hiring a Plant Operator to safely operate equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders.

• Operate equipment for handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both high pressure and liquefied gases.
• Load and unload gas cylinders and other products onto route trucks and trailers, using proper carts.
• Sort empty cylinders by type to maintain an organized workflow.
• Roll cylinders and operate a forklift truck for pallet movement.
• Read and interpret cylinder labels and color‑coding; accurately label cylinders.
• Care for high‑pressure, medical and liquid cylinders; prepare cylinders for filling.
• Attach to manifold, evacuate cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
• Perform basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling and cleaning the work area.
• Inspect cylinders prior to filling per government, Airgas and distributor standards.
• Conduct safety checks: odor tests, caps and valve checks.
• Fill cylinders by pressure and weight, following regulations and standards.
• Verify cylinder quantities, styles, product and assist with inventory.
• Coordinate documentation to DOT, FDA, OSHA and Airgas standards.
• Complete quality control sheets as required.
• Uphold all government and company standards relating to hazardous materials handling.

• Required
  : HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred
  :
  Experience in a manufacturing operation, filling or loading; familiarity with gas, welding, safety supply or chemical industry; forklift operation certification or training potential.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
• Team collaboration with diverse perspectives.
• Customer service skills.
• Self‑motivated, fast‑paced work ethic, attention to detail and precision.
• Basic arithmetic skills; compute rates, ratios and percentages.
• Physical dexterity: walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling; lift up to 60 lbs, move up to 800 lbs with equipment.
• Vision and sensory awareness to detect environmental cues, including gas smell or sound.
