Position Purpose

The Goodman Community Center Older Adult Program supports GCC's mission by offering older adults in our community an array of activities to enrich their lives through life-long learning, fun recreational and social events, and health and wellness programming.

This position helps manage daily activities and lunch service in accordance to the guidelines and requirements set by our funders while ensuring our participants and volunteers feel valued and welcome.

Requirements Senior Meal Site/Lunch Program
  • Supervise and support volunteers to run in Goodman's Senior Meal Site (Dane County Congregate Meal Site) lunch program
  • Provide back-up support as needed in all volunteer functions (checking in guests, preparing food, serving food, sanitizing, etc)
  • Manage the volunteer schedule, including finding replacement volunteers or staff to fill in if shorthanded
  • Ensure that meal site volunteers record volunteer hours
  • Maintain compliance with the Dane County Senior Nutrition Program Site and New Bridge contract requirements, including food safety, menu standards, recordkeeping and meal site guidelines
  • Provide timely monthly attendance numbers and dining site donation amounts to the New Bridge Assistant Nutrition Manager
  • Collaborate with the finance department to ensure accuracy of reports and invoices
Older Adult Program Activities
  • Oversee coordination and execution of the daily activities/class schedule
  • Greet participants and assist new participants with registration forms and orient them to the program and activities
  • Ensure that facilitators have space and resources needed
  • Monitor the daily attendance and registration process
  • Collect daily attendance data and ensure timely submission of attendance forms to GCC data entry volunteer
  • Collaborate with other GCC colleagues in other departments to ensure successful execution of programs and events (Hospitality, Facilities, Front Desk, etc)
  • Assist with Older Adult events/celebrations and event promotion
  • Check email at least daily while on shift
Participant Support
  • Organize transportation services for Older Adult participants through Transit Solutions
  • Keep participants informed of program changes, updates, and other important program information
  • Provide follow up phone calls, program reminders and program updates when needed
  • Communicate with the Assistant Director of Older Adult Programs about difficult or challenging participants to facilitate finding appropriate support for them
  • Help manage any participant or volunteer concerns or disputes in a timely and professional manner
  • Keep the Assistant Director of Older Adult Programs informed of any challenges and seek advice when needed to provide appropriate resolution
Qualifications
  • Experience with food service
  • Serv Safe Manager certified within 60 days of employment
  • Experience volunteering or working with volunteers
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond to changing situations in a flexible manner
  • Experience with and interest in supporting adults 60 years and older
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and even temperament
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft outlook and word
Preferred:
  • Experience with a scheduling database
  • Previous experience as a meal site coordinator
  • Conflict management skills
  • Background experience in human services
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand, reach, and bend for the entire work schedule
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a computer and perform sedentary work as necessary
