The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in patient care by contributing to the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under supervision of RN(s), the LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities that align with their education and demonstrated competencies.
Key Responsibilities- Under RN supervision, assess patients’ physical, psychological, and social dimensions in healthcare and housing units; contribute to individualized treatment plans; consult with RNs and staff as needed.
- Implement treatment programs directed by healthcare practitioners, administer medications, including IV therapy (if certified), and perform diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate in controlled‑substance counts at the beginning of each shift; comply with safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions; respond to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
- Assist in medical or minor surgical procedures, implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and document nursing encounters using SOAP charting; ensure effective communication with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions; demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high‑quality patient care.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Prefer minimum of one (1) year of clinic experience.
- Have and maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse within the state of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR certification.
