Neuro ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Madison, WI

Contract Duration: 17 Weeks (03/23/2026 – 07/20/2026)

Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift (19:00 – 07:30) | 36 Hours Per Week

Job Summary

Ranked as the #1 hospital in Wisconsin, a Magnet®-designated teaching facility and a Comprehensive Stroke Center of Excellence. This 12-bed Neuroscience ICU/IMC manages high-acuity adult patients with complex neurological conditions. You will be part of a nationally recognized team providing expert care for stroke, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and post-operative neurosurgical patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specialized Neuro Monitoring: Manage and troubleshoot External Ventricular Drains (EVD), Lumbar drains, and ICP monitoring using Cere Link systems.
  • Stroke & Trauma Care: Provide acute management for Ischemic and Hemorrhagic strokes, cerebral aneurysms, and spinal cord injuries.
  • Critical Interventions: Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, manage continuous IV sedation, and implement Arctic Sun/Hypothermia protocols.
  • Respiratory Support: Manage ventilated patients, including BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
  • Documentation: Expert use of Epic EMR is required (preferably within the last 12 months).
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience:
    * Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the ICU specialty.
    • Neurosurgery experience is strongly preferred.
    • Must be comfortable with both ICU and IMC (Intermediate Care) patient levels.
  • Licensure: Active Wisconsin State RN License or Multi-State Compact License must be in hand at submittal.
  • Certifications: BLS & ACLS (Must be American Heart Association ONLY).
  • Tele Competency: Must pass a Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam prior to start (100% identification of lethal rhythms required).
  • Floating: Mandatory. Travelers are the first to float to other units or locations within the Health system.
Unit & Staffing Details
  • Capacity: 12-bed unit (all private rooms).
  • Ratios: 1:2 for ICU and IMC levels across all shifts.
  • Support: Access to a full interdisciplinary team including Rapid Response, Pharmacy, and Respiratory Services.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every Other.
