The Rehabilitation Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, or illnesses requiring rehabilitative treatment. The role involves nursing assessments, implementing care plans, monitoring progress, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to help patients regain optimal physical, functional, and emotional well‑being. The RN demonstrates advanced clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient‑centered care and safety.
Essential Work Functions- Complete nursing assessments of patients and document findings in patient records.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including education on procedures and post‑operative care.
- Coordinate holistic patient care, providing mobility support, rehab exercises, and ADL assistance while adhering to individualized care plans.
- Monitor and evaluate patients’ responses to therapeutic interventions, documenting progress and communicating concerns to the interdisciplinary team.
- Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized environment and ensure rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Assist with safe patient transport to and from therapy sessions, diagnostics, or other care areas as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficient PC skills.
- Physical Abilities – Must remain stationary, move about, lift/move equipment (50‑100lbs), push, pull, and bend.
- Interpersonal Skills – Must work effectively with a variety of personnel with a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Technical/Motor Skills – Must handle fine manipulation, push/pull, and assist with procedures using departmental equipment.
- Mental Requirements – Must cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, and work independently when needed.
- Sensory – Must possess visual acuity and effective communication skills.
- One year of recent experience as a Rehab RN.
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC).
- ACLS certification.
- NIHSS certification.
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position.
