How you make a differenceThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site physicians offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and health services administrator and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, and utilization of available in-house resources for treatment.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, and report any concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals.
- Provide input into facility mandatory committees as requested.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Experience
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
- Patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
- Scheduling flexibility required to rotate hours and shifts, and to be called during emergency situations for coverage.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
- Current CPR certification.
