Position Overview
Delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
Schedule- Variable schedule with a mix of day, mid, and evening/late shifts:
- Day Shift: 7:00AM–3:30PM (may start as early as 6:30AM for complex case setup)
- Mid Shift: 11:00AM–7:30PM or 1:00PM–9:30PM
- Evening/Late Shift: 2:30PM–11:00PM
- Weekend and on‑call rotation required (specific rotation depends on specialty assignment after orientation):
- Neuro:
Week‑long call rotation, including weekends (Friday–Monday) - General Surgery: 2–3 week‑night call shifts per month plus a 24‑hour weekend call
- Orthopedics: 2–3 weeknights per month and a 12‑hour weekend call every 4th weekend
- Neuro:
- Previous operating room (OR) experience preferred; new graduates and experienced registered nurses (RNs) are invited to apply.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.
- No prior experience required.
- Perform scrub functions, including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
- Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during, and after procedure.
- Assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
- Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.
- Apply existing evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring patient care is based on age‑specific and clinical needs as described in the department’s Scope of Service.
- Demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to evolving patient needs.
- Maintain constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state in which the work location resides (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin).
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- State‑specific registration as required (e.g., IDFPR for Illinois, Missouri Division of Professional Registration, or applicable compact state registry).
- Constant use of speech for oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking; frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0–25lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, keyboard use/data entry; frequent vision and depth perception for distances near 20in or less and far 20ft or more.
- Frequent use of smell and hearing for alarms and body sounds.
- Occasional lifting of patients and objects weighing 25–50lbs; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements.
- Occasional driving and rare crawling or running.
