Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse - Lab provides care and counselling of patients and promotes maintenance of healthy living in the prevention of illness, injury, and chronic disease by using the nursing process including systematic data collecting, monitoring, judgment, and evaluation of patient responses. This position performs a wide variety of laboratory and equipment tests.
QualificationsApplicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship.
- English Language Proficiency.
- Active, unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or District of Columbia.
- Grade‑specific qualifications (detail below).
- GS‑03:
None beyond basic requirements. - GS‑04:
Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN, or graduation from an approved school (eligible as per policy) and one year of experience in a nursing care facility. - GS‑05:
Completion of at least one year of qualifying experience at the GS‑4 level and demonstration of comprehensive nursing care skills. - GS‑06:
Completion of at least one year of additional qualifying experience at the GS‑5 level; proficiency in patient care, medication administration, emergency response, and instructional skills. - Full performance level for this vacancy is GS‑06; applicants may be selected for grades GS‑03 to GS‑06.

- Maintain clinic flow by completing clinic intake, obtaining and recording vital signs and measurements.
- Collaborate effectively with all disciplines and levels of care regarding patient care needs.
- Assist with delegated minor procedures and treatments, including positioning patients and ensuring comfort and privacy.
- Provide patient and family health education or instruction, including self‑management, prevention, and wellness.
- Collect blood, urine, or other specimens in a courteous manner from clinic outpatients for a wide variety of requested laboratory and technical equipment tests.
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and universal precautions while collecting and processing specimens.
- Instruct patients on procedures to be followed prior, during, and after tests.
- Evaluate requested tests to determine suitability of specimens; request recollection if necessary.
- Receive and accession requests for laboratory testing, verifying accuracy and completeness.
- Control laboratory and technical equipment supply inventory.
- Recognize emergency situations and take necessary action, including seeking assistance from RN or MD/DO and initiating appropriate emergency interventions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 0730‑1600.
