Location:
Madison, Wisconsin. Position:
Nurse Practitioner Cardiology (Inpatient Primary Cardiology).
Schedule:
This is a full‑time position with day and night rotation and a variable schedule. Daytime shifts are 10–12 hours; weekend, overnight, and holiday shifts are also 10–12 hours, based on operational needs. The service is evolving to a 24/7 model with rotating overnight coverage (Monday–Sunday) including holidays.
Worksite:
University Hospital at 600 Highland Avenue, Madison, WI.
- Work in a team‑based model to care for a wide variety of cardiology patients alongside residents, cardiology fellows, and attending physicians.
- Perform daily medical management for cardiology patients requiring general, IMC, or higher levels of care as part of the primary service team.
- Manage both acute cardiac conditions and other acute and chronic non‑cardiac problems such as kidney disease, anemia, electrolyte disturbances, sepsis, pneumonia, diabetes, etc.
- Participate in daily team rounds to adjust plans of care, including lab and radiology interpretation, hemodynamic and telemetry monitoring, medication management, communication with patients and families, multidisciplinary rounds, consultation of other services, and teaching rounds.
- Perform admissions, transfers, and discharges and provide holistic care coordination for cardiology patients on the service.
- Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from an accredited Nursing Program (if applying as Nurse Practitioner).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited PA Program (if applying as Physician Assistant).
- State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure.
- For Nurse Practitioner:
Active RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice; active board certification as a NP in the area of clinical practice (Adult, Adult/Gerontology Acute Care, Adult/Gerontology Primary Care). - For Physician Assistant:
Active PA license, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice; active PA board certification. - All Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant applicants must have an active DEA license or the ability to obtain one prior to or upon hire.
